Quincy Jones’s Bel Air Estate Now on the Market
The renowned music producer Quincy Jones’s final residence, located in the prestigious Lower Bel Air neighborhood of Los Angeles, has been listed for sale for just under $60 million. This vast estate became Jones’s home in early 2002, where he resided until his passing from pancreatic cancer at age 91 last November. The property is being marketed by David Kramer and Andrew Buss of the David Kramer Group at Compass.
A Musical Legacy Anchored by Architectural Grandeur
In the summer of 1972, Jones acquired a vacant lot for $200,000. He commissioned celebrated architect Gerald “Jerry” Allison to design and construct a luxurious mansion inspired by the opulent Palace of the Lost City hotel in South Africa. Encompassing over two acres, the estate features a sprawling layout with five bedrooms and 17 bathrooms, which offers panoramic views extending from downtown Los Angeles to the San Gabriel Mountains and the Pacific Ocean.
Design and Features
Spreading across nearly 25,000 square feet, the residence is structured in three distinct wings connected by elevators and staircases. Highlights of the home include:
- A circular living room with a vaulted dome ceiling, large windows, and a cozy bar area.
- A wine room equipped with a tasting area and cellar.
- A game lounge and cabana adjacent to leisure facilities.
The eastern wing accommodates a formal dining room, gourmet kitchen with a butler’s pantry, family room, and staff quarters. The opulent primary suite boasts a private balcony, expansive walk-in closets, a luxurious bathroom, and a dedicated fitness area.
Meanwhile, the western wing includes three guest bedrooms, a recording studio, a screening room, an art gallery, and a security office. The exterior features elegantly landscaped grounds, multiple patios and verandas, a full-sized tennis court, an infinity-edge pool, and a spillover spa.
A Family’s Fond Farewell
Rashida Jones, daughter of Quincy Jones, shared her sentiments about the home, stating, “My father loved his home so much. He created it from the ground up with his boundless imagination and the talent of his high school friend, legendary architect Jerry Allison. Our family has a lifetime worth of wonderful memories and meaning imbued in this home. We hope the new owner will continue the legacy of love and laughter and beauty that is synonymous with the name Quincy Jones.”
An Icon’s Legacy
Quincy Jones’s illustrious career began as a jazz trumpeter, evolving into a prominent role as a producer and arranger. His extensive portfolio includes iconic hits such as Lesley Gore’s “It’s My Party” and the charitable anthem “We Are the World.” A recipient of 28 Grammy Awards, he was honored with a lifetime achievement award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.
